Plans to Give-away Established Business!
March 31st, 1998 Westport, N.S. - B&B operator, Nancy Swift is planning to give-away the family run Westport Inn and Restaurant on Brier Island, Nova Scotia, to the winner of an essay contest. Participants in the contest are asked to write an essay (in 1000 words or less) explaining their "heartfelt reason why they would like to own and operate" the cherished family business. Ms. Swift is expected examine all the entries and chose a new owner by the end of 1998. Nancy Swift has been battling cancer for several years and is determined before her disease worsens, to have an owner that would reflect her love and passion for the established business. The Westport Inn and Restaurant is only 8 years old and is located on Brier Island in the Bay of Fundy. The Island is a well-known whale watching and birding destination. Ms. Swift explained that she has received over 70 essays so far, and about a dozen essays are "worth a second read." Each contestant is required to submit $100 with their entry. According to Ms. Swift, the money from the contest will be used to pay off the remaining mortgage on the property. Ms. Swift noted that she is looking for someone who has "a dream" and "touches my heart." The Westport Inn and Restaurant will open for the season on May 1st.
