Expansion
Underway, Canada Day Opening! reproduced from Municipal Matters, A Publication for the Residents of Queens on the Issues and People of the Regional Municipality, Volume 6, Issue 1, January, 2002. February 1st, 2002 Liverpool, N.S. - With continued increases in visitation and the demand for extra sites, work has begun to expand the campground at Thomas Raddall Provincial Park, Port Joli. A new loop with 25 additional sites is planned to be opened on Canada Day, 2002. The softwood loop was part of the original park design but was not to be built until the need could be justified. Overflow camping and the number of guests that had to be turned away over the last two summers has shown that an expanded area will be well used, especially during July and August. Site work started in September and the loop road and camping pads are now in place. Final graveling and the placing of topsoil will occur this spring. Both the Department of Natural
Resources and the Region (of Queens) have committed funds and equipment to
the project, a continuation of a five-year long cooperative approach to
strengthening tourism while enhancing and protecting our natural heritage.
