Tall Ships Stamp Makes Debut

by Vaughn Mullen, Editor

First Day Cover of Tall Ships Stamp dated July 19th, 2000 at Halifax, Nova Scotia.July 19th, 2000 Halifax, N.S. -  Canada Post issued a new stamp today commemorating the visit of the Tall Ships to Halifax. The forty-six cent stamp designed to be purchased in two's shows a panoramic view of Halifax Harbour alive with numerous Tall Ships in full sail. The stamp designer is Fraser Ross, the illustrator Bonnie Ross, both live in Halifax.

Fraser says "I grew up spending most of my summers on sailboats, so presenting this event in a stamp is a highlight of my career." The design team took great pains to ensure that the various classes of tall ships were represented in the issue, from barques, brigantines and schooners to the three-masted, fully rigged ships.

The Tall Ship stamp is self-adhesive and brilliantly printed in eight colours. The issue is available only in a booklet of 10 stamps selling for $4.60. Attractive first day covers can be purchased for $1.22 each at most post offices across Canada.

Canada Post tellers are expecting brisk sales of the stamp from both collectors and visitors to Canada this summer.
